5 Simple Ways to Take 5 Minutes for Yourself Today

Jun 22,2022 | Jessie Goh

We are all so busy these days, it seems like we never have time for ourselves. But what if I told you that you could take 5 minutes out of your day to honour and care for yourself? It's true! In this blog post, we will discuss 5 rituals that only require 5 minutes of your time. So brew a cup of tea, and let's get started!

Ritual #1: Movement

Movement is medicine. Taking just 5 minutes to stretch your legs, arms and neck can loosen tight muscles and give you much-needed energy to power through the day. Not to mention, it will also lift your mood! So get up and move your body!

Ritual #2: Singing and Dancing

This one is my personal favourite. Put on your favourite song and dance like no one is watching! Not only is this a great way to get the heart pumping and the blood flowing, but it's also a lot of fun! And we all know that happiness is key to a healthy mind and body.

Ritual #3: Mindful Doodling

Connecting pencil to paper is a great way to get you out of your thinking mind and just remain in the moment. Being fully engaged in an activity puts us into a state called "flow" which has been shown to increase happiness and improve emotional balance. So grab a pen and paper and start doodling!

Ritual #4: Meditation

Meditation is a great way to gain better focus and concentration, while also lowering stress levels. And who doesn't want that? Just 5 minutes of meditation can make a world of difference.

New to meditation? No worries.

While you are waiting for your tea to brew, find a comfortable spot to sit. Relax your shoulders and put your hands on your knees lightly. Focus on your breathing. Slow and deep breaths. If you have to-do lists and thoughts flying around in your mind, that is ok. Just tell them "Thank you. I'll deal with you later" and get back to breathing.

Ritual #5: Journal

Writing using pen and paper is a great way to clear our mind while increasing our stream of consciousness. Topics to journal about:

  • 3 things you are grateful of for the day
  • 1 win of the day
  • Write about your dreams and goals
  • Write about a place you would like to travel to
  • Write about a person you'd like to meet
  • Write about an experience you'd like to go through

There you have it! 5 rituals that only take 5 minutes each.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post and that you will incorporate some (or all!) of these rituals into your daily routine.

Remember, taking care of yourself is the first step to a healthy mind and body. So make time for yourself today! You deserve it!

Cheers
Jessie
